Polycrystalline solar panels have blue cells made of multiple silicon crystals, and they are less efficient but more affordable. Monocrystalline panels have black cells made of single
crystals. There is some technical difference between mono perc and polycrystalline panels. Mono perc panels are 2% to 2.5% more efficient than poly. Low light and high temperatures are not big issues for mono perc panels. Mono perc comes in 370W and above and polycrystalline comes up to 300W. Monocrystalline panels are generally more efficient and space-efficient than polycrystalline panels, meaning they produce more energy with less space. This makes them ideal if you have limited roof space or want to maximize energy production.
In grid connected rooftop or small solar photovoltaic (SPV) system, the DC power generated from solar panel is converted to AC power using power conditioning unit/Inverter and is fed to the grid. Operating modes of grid connected rooftop solar PV system can be explained.
A 1 kW rooftop system generally requires 10 sq. meters of shadow-free area. However, actual area requirement may vary depending on the efficiency of solar module, and their placement etc. Bifacial Panels requires 550w each Size 3.5' feet to 7' feet Approx.
When both the source (Grid and Solar) are available then your load at home will run from solar first, if your running load is more than 1 kw then it automatically takes from the primary grid. This system is generally for a small family where the running load is approximately 800 watts. 1 kW solar system generates an average of 4 units in a day. 1kw solar system price (approx.) in India with a subsidy is Rs. 52000*.
Solar modules (and cells within) need uninterrupted sunlight to produce maximum electrical energy. With the shadow even on a part of the module, the generation reduces to a great extent thereby wasting installed system capacity. Also, prolonged (regular, though intermittent) shadow on some cells or modules reduces their life substantially and these become useless much before their standard life of over 25-30 years.
Bifacial modules produce solar power from both sides of the panel. Whereas traditional opaque-backsheeted panels are monofacial, bifacial modules expose both the front and backside of the solar cells. When bifacial modules are installed on a highly reflective surface (like a white TPO roof or on the ground with light-colored stones), some bifacial module manufacturers claim up to a 30% increase in production just from the extra power generated from the rear. their standard life of over 25-30 years.
